A Museum's tribute opens on Sunday 6 April 2014

1914 at Budleigh Salterton Railway Station: Off to fight for King and Country

East Devon’s Fairlynch Museum will host an exhibition focusing on the impact of the First World War on the communities of the Lower Otter Valley.

Opening on Sunday 6 April 2014, ‘The Great War at Fairlynch’ will commemorate the centenary of the outbreak of the war.

The exhibition will tell the stories of people associated with Budleigh Salterton and the surrounding area during the 1914-18 conflict.

Items on display will include original records and letters sent during that time.

During the war, local hospitals were used for treating military casualties. The exhibition will show the work that went on there to treat wounded soldiers.

Also on display will be artefacts, photographs and archive materials telling the stories of men and women from the local area during the war.

Fairlynch Museum welcomes information about people with links to the Lower Otter Valley communities of Budleigh Salterton, East Budleigh, Otterton, Colaton Raleigh and Newton Poppleford who may have played a part in the war effort.
